Reporting Litter Offences
Littering can be in the form of:
- Dropping paper, food wrappers, bottles, cans or cigarette butts from vehicles
- Dumping rubbish including household or commercial waste on vacant land
- Dumping fill (soil, etc) onto vacant land
- Leaving picnic rubbish behind in a park or shopping area
- Placing unauthorised posters on poles, bus shelters or buildings
- Leaving household rubbish on nature strips and
- Observing a person intentionally leaving a shopping trolley in a street, reserve or waterway
What can you do about it?
Contact one of our Customer Service Centres to take any action against alleged offenders. We need as much information:
Date and time you saw the littering
- Location e.g. street name, suburb and house number (e.g. outside number 10)
- Description and the number of offenders
- Address of offender (if known), e.g. “I saw them come out of Unit 1 at No 50”.
- Description of material dumped e.g. lit cigarette butt; truckload of soil; concrete, etc.
- Your name, address and contact telephone number.
Please note: You may have to attend at a Magistrates’ Court and give evidence of what you saw however, this happens in less than 2% of cases.
To report littering please complete a Litter Report Form and return it to Council.
