    Work Experience/Tertiary Placements
    We offer some opportunities for students completing work experience as a component of their course.  Work experience/placement approval is subject to council staff availability, time, and work load constraints.

    We try to place as many students as we can, however, due to the high volume of applications, we’re not able to place all applicants. Only successful applicants will be contacted.

    Please give us sufficient notice (4-6 weeks) when applying as it gives us time to seek and plan for a placement and increases your chance of a placement.

    Work Experience
    Work experience placements are for secondary school students (year 10) who

    • live or study in Brimbank City Council area;
    • Must provide a completed ‘Work Experience Arrangement Form’ prior to commencing a placement with us.

    Placements are for one week (5 days) and are paid a minimum of $5 per day in accordance with the Victoria Work Experience Arrangement. Work placements for year 11 and 12 are generally not paid.

    Tertiary Placements
    Tertiary placement are for students completing a current tertiary course who

    • live or study in Brimbank City Council area;
    • are enrolled at a registered educational institution; and
    • Must provide current insurance coverage (certificate of currency) from their institution, covering their duration of placement.

    Tertiary placements are unpaid. Placements may be project or time based. 


    Engineering Student Placements
    Engineering Services has a yearly work placement program which is advertised every September/October. Placements are open to students who are undertaking a minimum second year degree in Civil Engineering.

    The work placement program will be advertised on our e-recruit website. We undertake a formal recruitment process. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed. Two positions are offered.

    The program involves paid full time employment of 12 weeks between November and February. Unfortunately, we're unable to take volunteers. We look forward to receiving your application.
