Current Maintenance Work
Council is undertaking the following maintenance work in the Sunshine Town Centre:
Street litter and recycling bins
Installation of the new street litter and recycling bins is underway and will occur through out March and into April along Hampshire Road (north of the railway), Devonshire Road, Dickson Street and Clarke Street.
Installation is planned in 2 stages and starts with the preparation of a concrete base to enable secure attachment of the bins to the pavement. The second stage involves the installation of the bins on these concrete pads and or replacing existing bins.
Street litter is an important issue in the Sunshine Town Centre and it is anticipated that new bins will reduce the amount of litter dropped in the street. More importantly, the introduction of recycling bins provides the opportunity for Council to reduce landfill and promote environmentally responsible litter disposal options.
Recent maintenance work has included:
Public lighting upgrades at the Sunshine Bus Interchange
An upgrade of public lighting at the bus interchange involving the installation of new light poles.
Pavement repairs along Hampshire Road
Repairs to the foopaths along Hampshire Road address areas that had risen due to tree roots or had sunk and collecting water. Grates were also removed from the base of trees along Hampshire Road and replaced with permeable paving material that allows water to penetrate the tree roots. The end result is a much smoother, safer and attractive walking environment.
Street banner bracket upgrades
Council recently upgraded the banners located on 40 Council owned light poles. The new bracket system allows larger banners to be installed. The first set of banners based on the tag line "You are my Sunshine" were installed in October and a further set is being designed for Christmas and planned for installation in November.
