Planning and Design Projects

There are a range of planning and design projects underway in the Sunshine Town Centre.

Sunshine Town Centre Structure Plan Review

Council is reviewing the Sunshine Structure Plan "Sunshine Beyond 2020" to incorporate the newly adopted vision for the Sunshine Town Centre and reflect the new format established for Structure Plans by the State Government practise notes.

A program of community consultation and engagement is planned for early 2012 and it is anticipated that the revised Structure Plan will be presented to Council for adoption later that year.

Northern Precinct Development Framework

A development framework is being developed for the Northern Precinct of the Sunshine Town Centre which will inform Council on how the area is likely to develop, what needs to occur to enable this development and the steps and initiatives required of Council and other stakeholders to facilitate this development.

The Northern Precinct generally includes properties facing Ballarat Rd (from the Sydenham railway line to Victoria University), Foundry Rd and Harvester Rd (north of Foundry Rd) and the area surrounding the Albion Train station including Darling Flour Mill and Anderson Rd (north of the railway line).

The preparation of the development framework is an important step in the implementation of the Sunshine Structure Plan.

Funding for this work has been provided by the State Government's Department of Planning and Community Development (DPCD) Expert Assistance Program. DPCD have engaged David Lock and Associates to undertake this work.

Clarke Street - Streetscape Design

A streetscape design is being developed for Clarke Street and Council recently presented initial concepts to the Sunshine Business Association for feedback. Businesses from Clarke Street were also invited to attend the session. Council is incorporating feedback from the session and will prepare a concept design that will be presented to businesses later this year.
