Sunshine Town Centre Structure Plan Update

Brimbank City Council is updating the Sunshine Town Centre Structure Plan which was previously adopted by Council in 2009.

The structure plan provides a basis for managing the use and development of land in the town centre over the next 10 to 20 years. It addresses a broad range of issues including retail development, offices, housing, transport, accessibility, heritage, urban design, open space and community services and facilities.

Council is required to update the existing Structure Plan to comply with new State Government planning requirements. The update will enable Council to prepare planning controls that reflect what is said in the Structure Plan and give Council greater say over the type of development that occurs in the centre. The update also provides an opportunity to incorporate recent work and development in the centre.

The process to update the structure plan involves two stages. The first stage is the development of key themes and principles that will establish the framework for the updated Structure Plan and how it will be implemented. The key themes and principles can be viewed by clicking HERE.

Community Consultation

A range of community consultation's about the first stage have been scheduled in March and April 2012 including:

• Information display and listening posts
  • 10am - 5pm Saturday 24 March, Brimbank Festival - Sunshine Rising stall (a Vietnamese interpreter will be available 11am – 1pm)
  • 10am - 12noon and 3.30 - 5.30pm Thursday 19 April, in the Harvester Room at 301 Hampshire Road Sunshine 
  • 10am – 1pm Saturday 28 April, on the footpath adjacent to TAC Supermarket 294 Hampshire Road Sunshine
• Community information and feedback sessions:
  • 6.30 - 8.30pm Thursday 26 April (presentation at 7.00pm) at Victoria University Conference Centre, Ballarat Road Sunshine

Feedback Survey

An online survey has been developed to help make it easy to provide feedback. You can access the survey by clicking HERE. Hard copies of the survey can also be provided. Surveys must be returned by 5pm Monday 30 April 2012.

Your feedback is important and will inform the preparation of the updated structure plan which forms the second stage of the project. A draft of the updated structure plan will be released for public comment in May and be accompanied with another program of community engagement and consultation.
