Maternal and Child Health

The M&CH Service is a free community based service to families of children from birth to school age and provides regular health and development checks for children from birth.

The service provides support, information and assistance to parents on topics including:

• Child health and development
• Nutrition and Breastfeeding
• Sleep and settling
• Parental Health and well being
• Child Safety awareness
• Immunisation
• Managing Infant/child behaviours
• Links and referral to other support services
• Parent support groups

The Brimbank Maternal and Child Health (M&CH) Service is managed on behalf of Council by ISIS Primary Care.

Specialized Programs

Enhanced MCH Service:

This service provides a more intensive level of support, including short term case management in some circumstances to families whose circumstances may include:

• Children/parents with chronic or recurring illness
• Isolated families with limited support
• Depression
• Alcohol/other drugs
• Domestic violence
• Homelessness

Breast Feeding Support

A qualified Lactation consultant provides one on one support and assistance for women experiencing difficulties with successfully breastfeeding their baby.

Parent Support

This service is offered to families who need advice and support in relation to infant sleep and settling behaviour. Families can contact the service directly or be referred by a Maternal and Child Health Nurse.

Vietnamese Parenting Support

This service provides group work support and referral for Vietnamese families.
