Best Start

The Brimbank Best Start Project

Best Start aims to improve the health, development, learning and well-being of all children from pregnancy to eight years. Research indicates that the early years are critical in improving the health and well-being of children in later life.

Best Start programs act as a preventative and early intervention measure for all children. This is achieved through a partnership approach with Council, local agencies and community stakeholders.

The Brimbank Early Years Reference Group (BEYRG) has been formed as the local partnership and includes a broad range of government agencies and other key stakeholders such as local schools, local community agencies, statewide agencies, the Sunshine Hospital, and parents.

The Brimbank Best Start Partnership and Parent Advisory Group have identified the following priority outcomes:

  • Increased rates of breastfeeding
  • Increased rates of Maternal & Child Health Service attendance
  • Enhancing Literacy and Numeracy skills and
  • Enhancing Social Connectedness for families.
