| What are the Australia Day Awards? | | Each year Brimbank City Council invites nominations for the prestigious Australia Day Awards which are presented to local individuals and groups who have made an outstanding contribution to our community. These Awards will be presented on Australia Day, Tuesday 26 January 2010. | |
| What's new? | | For 2010 the Awards have been adapted to fit with Brimbank City Council's Community Plan and to acknowledge the achievements and contributions made by outstanding individuals or groups within the community. | |
| Who is eligible to be nominated? | | Open to individuals who reside within and groups who conduct their activities within the Brimbank Local Government area. | |
| What are the Award categories? | | | |
| Citizen of the Year To be eligible, the person must be aged 26 years or over as at Tuesday 26 January 2010, be an Australia Citizen as at Monday 7 December 2009; and have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year/or have given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years. | Young Citizen of the Year To be eligible, the person must be aged 16-25 years as at Tuesday 26 January 2010, be an Australia Citizen as at Monday 7 December 2009; and have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year and/or have given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years. | How does someone become nominated? | | Anyone can nominate by completing the appropriate category Nomination Form and returning the form to the Arts and Culture Unit, Brimbank City Council, 775 Ballarat Road, Deer Park, Victoria 3023. An individual or group may be nominated in one category only. All nominations must have two nominators and submit the required documentation addressing all areas of the selection criteria.

| What happens once someone is nominated? | | The Nomination Form is registered and a letter acknowledging receipt of nomination is sent to both the nominator and the nominee.
Once nominations close at 5pm on Monday, 7 December 2009, the nomination forms are forwarded to the Australia Day Selection Panel. During the following week, the judges preside over the nominations and decide on the award recipients. | |
| When do nominations close? | | At 5pm on Monday, 7 December 2009, Late nominations will not be accepted for judging. | |
| When does Brimbank City Council announce the winners? | | All nominees are encouraged to attend the Australia Day Citizenship and Awards Ceremony on Tuesday 26 January 2010, where the winners are announced. Information on the Australia Day Event will be forwarded to the nominator and nominees prior to the event. | |
| Guidelines and procedures | | · The awards shall be considered annually by Brimbank City Council; · open to individuals who reside within the Brimbank Local Government Area; · groups who conduct their activities within the Brimbank Local Government area; · nominations assessed and judged by a selection panel; · winners will be advertised through local media. | |
