Artists-in-Residence
Since 2006, the Artists-in-Residence studio program has supported established and emerging artists working across various art forms including painting, print-making, drawing, textiles, photography, new media, music, writing and dance.
The program consists of six non-residential studios located at the Hunt Club Community Arts Centre. Residencies are available for a period of two years at a subsidised rate of $28.30 per week.
All studios have natural and fluorescent light and access to running water. Studios are secure, have 24-hour access, timber floors and storage. There are two electric kilns on site and space to establish a darkroom; these facilities are available to resident artists on a negotiated basis.
One residency is offered as a Featured Artist-in-Residence. The Featured Artist-in-Residence coordinates the planning and implementation of a small scale community cultural development (CCD) project, which aims to engage specific target groups within Brimbank. Council supports this program through subsidized studio rent and provision of project materials.
The Artists-in-Residence program enables artists to extend and/or develop their own arts practice and enrich the arts and cultural life of the Brimbank.
The Residencies aim to:
-
Provide artists with an opportunity to extend and develop their arts practice in a community setting
-
Provide low cost studio spaces in Brimbank, and
-
Provide a platform for artists to engage with the community.
