If you receive a parking infringement you need to pay the fine within 28 days.

How do I pay my parking fine?

Pay at an Australia Post office through POSTbillpay

  • Send a cheque or money order to Brimbank City Council.  Make sure you include the infringement notice number and vehicle registration number with the payment.
  • Pay in person with cash, EFTPOS or credit card at any of the Customer Service Centres between 8.45am-5pm Monday to Friday (except public holidays).

What if I can’t afford to pay the fine?

If you are experiencing financial hardship you can apply to Council for an Infringement Payment Plan (an extension of time to pay).  This must be done before the due date of the fine.

How do I appeal against my parking fine?

If you believe the infringement has been issued in error, you may appeal to Council and request an application for internal review

There are four main grounds for appeal:

  1. The fine is unlawful.  You should provide the reasons why you believe the fine is unlawful.
  2. Mistaken identity.  You should provide the reason why you believe there was a mistake of identity.  You will also need to provide the name and address of the person who you believe you were mistaken for and your relationship to that person.
  3. Special circumstances.  Special circumstances means persons with a mental or intellectual disability, a disorder, disease or illness, a serious addiction to drugs, alcohol, or a volatile substance, or persons who are homeless.  A letter or report from a psychiatrist, social worker or drug counsellor must be supplied.
  4. Exceptional circumstances.  You may request to be excused under Section 24(5) of the Infringements Act 2006; however your exceptional circumstances must clearly show why you should be excused.

What happens if you don't pay?

After 28 days a penalty reminder notice will be sent and you will be required to pay the initial fine plus costs.  If the matter is still unresolved it may be referred to the Infringements Court resulting in a higher fee and additional costs.
