Schools Bulletin

The Brimbank Schools Bulletin is a quarterly newsletter to schools updating you on information regarding the environment and Brimbank that is relevant to teachers.

Brimbank Teachers Environment Network (BTEN)

The Brimbank Teachers Environment Network (BTEN) gives teachers across Brimbank the opportunity to network with other teachers and council staff, gain knowledge on the environment that will help their teaching and share success stories.

The BTEN meets in person once per term and all teachers in Brimbank with an environmental focus are welcome.

For more information call our Environmental Education Officer on 9249 4000 or info@brimbank.vic.gov.au

Composting at school

Composting at School is a great way to reduce your impact on the environment. Composting can be done in specially made compost bins or worm farms available from gardening shops or the council or in compost bins you make yourself.

The important thing to remember is what can go in your compost bin or worm farm

Growing Food at school

Growing your own food at school can help reduce your schools impact on the environment. You can grow food to use in your cooking classes, to share with parents and teachers or even to sell at school events.

Growing your own food is easy, all you need is some space in the garden and a few helping hands.

To learn about starting your own kitchen garden at school visit the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation website.

Recycling at school

Recycling is a great way to reduce our impact on the environment and it is something we can all do. We should be recycling at home, at school and when in public places.

Each school in Brimbank is entitled to a maximum of 10 recycling bins. The first 6 are provided at no charge and additional bins attract a one-off bin purchase and delivery fee.

Once a school has recycling bins they will be able to place them out to be collected at the same time as surrounding households (once per fortnight) according to the waste services calendar.

Here is a quick guide of what can and what cannot go in your recycling bins at school.
