Flora and Fauna
Flora
Our natural environment contains the deep valleys of the Maribyrnong with spectacular rocky crests, steep escarpments, and rich alluvial soils on the valley floor.
There are vast flat grassy plains of rich basalt soils which are waterlogged in winter and crack in the dry summers. From the boggy edges of Taylors Creek, to the dry windy escarpments of the Maribyrnong Valley a vast array of native plants can be found, each suited perfectly to their environment.

Fauna
We have a large amount of open space, particularly along its waterways; these areas support a mix of native and introduced animals. You may be lucky enough to see a Swamp Wallaby in Taylors Valley Parkland, or a Blue Tongue Lizard sunbaking in grasslands. In spring the call of the Pobblebonk frog is common on the Kororoit Creek, and if you look up you may see a Wedge-tailed Eagle soar overhead.

Threatened or Endangered Plants and Animals in Brimbank
The western basalt plains grassland community once covered one third of Victoria, bounded by Melbourne to the east, Hamilton to the west, Beaufort to the north and Colac to the south. Now only 0.1% of these grasslands remain. This makes grasslands one of the most threatened ecosystems in Australia.
Within the grasslands, escarpments and waterways of Brimbank; are a number of threatened or endangered species. These plants and animals are protected under the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988
