Media Release - Have your say on Creating Better Parks

Brimbank Council is seeking community feedback on the updated Draft Creating Better Parks Policy and Plan (Draft CBP).

The Draft CBP will guide the future improvement of parks and playgrounds in Brimbank, and set a vision for the next five years. This policy will help to foster a sense of place, cultural knowledge supporting the liveability, climate and health, and wellbeing of our community.

To support this vision, the Draft CBP sets the following goals:

  • Equitable distribution of high amenity open space

  • Support positive community health and well-being outcomes

  • Create accessible, inclusive facilities where communities can connect

  • Sustainable management, that ensures quality open space

  • Protect and enhance local biodiversity health

  • A climate adaptive Open Space Network that supports urban liveability

  • Parks as a regional asset

In 2021 we sought community feedback on CBP to better understand how parks are used, especially during COVID, and sought ideas and new opportunities on how to deliver better parks and open spaces within Brimbank’s park network.

The community’s feedback helped inform the revised policy and plan and ensure that the current needs of the community are aligned and reflected in the Draft CBP.

This policy establishes key objectives and short, medium and long-term actions to provide equitable access to quality open spaces for our community regardless of their age, gender, cultural background, ability or where they live.

The Draft CBP ensures Brimbank’s outdoor spaces are inviting, safe and accessible environments for people to socialise, relax and play.

The consultation closes on Wednesday 23 December 2022.
