Media Release - Be Bold Festival dares to be different as 2022 program announced

Brimbank Council is excited again to be hosting a family-friendly arts and culture event called Be Bold Festival on Saturday 8 October.

Be Bold returns in 2022 with a dynamic program of arts, culture, music and performance by and for our community in Melbourne’s west. There is no charge to attend, suitable for all ages and all are welcome.

Event highlights include Australia’s premiere collective of soulful artists Women of Soul playing live their original sweet, soul music with empowering anthems and gritty funk. Melbourne artists include Chelsea Wilson, Candice Monique, Germaine McCarthy, Alzzy, Monique DiMattina, Ashley Ballet and more.

There’s loads of family-friendly interactive entertainment including:

  • Junklandia turning household items into musical instruments

  • The Bandwagon showcasing world class musicians on a portable stage

  • Te Tangi O Te Ka’ara bringing drum, beats and dance from the Pacific Islands

  • Bells of Brimmers doing tricks on a nine metre tall tower

  • Snuff Puppets in collaboration with The East African Women's Foundation's Youth Group

  • Circus performance with Curbside Carnies and more!

Be sure to check out the Resonate – Youth Showcase featuring the best up and coming young musicians from Melbourne’s west, plus a special performance by the L2R Pandas - dance for kids.

There’s heaps of workshops for the whole family including dance workshops by The Australian Ballet and Afro and Hip-Hop with One Dance Love Vision. Join us for arts and craft, lantern making, origami, story time and more, plus take a trip around the world in our Cultural Kitchen series.

Don’t miss a very special exhibition Bold Stories Bold Lives by artist Ashley Ellis showcasing extraordinary Brimbank locals and their stories of courage and boldness. Or join us in the Bowery Theatre for the 123 Film Competition Awards as we announce the winners and a special screening of the finalists. Or you can go on a foodie tour of the multicultural hub of St Albans and experience the diverse cuisine in the area.

Be Bold Festival is a COVID safe, accessible, smoke-free and alcohol-free event. It is held at the Bowery Theatre and St Albans Community Centre, 33 Princess Street, St Albans and surrounding areas. Full program event details at: www.creativebrimbank.com.au
