Conduct During Election Period Policy

The Conduct During Elections Policy (PDF 1.58MB) ensures the transparency and accountability of the Councillors, Council officers, and candidates during an election period.

The Councillor Code of Conduct (the Code) (PDF 1.3MB) is the overarching policy for this policy.

The policy complies with the Local Government Act 1989. This requires councils to have an election period policy that sets out requirements relating to

  • conduct,
  • decision making,
  • transparency and equity,
  • and use of Council resources during an election period.

Election Signage Protocol

The Election Signage Protocol 2024 (PDF 623 KB) provides a transparent and consistent process which covers a number of considerations in relation to the safe, fair and effective conduct for election activities within Brimbank. The purpose of the Protocol transparent and consistent processes for management of election signage and stalls in the City of Brimbank for Federal, State and Local elections.

The Protocol complements the Conduct During Elections Policy to enable everyone to understand and fulfil their duties as an individual and collective to maintain transparency and good governance.
