The $52 million Community and Civic Centre at 301 Hampshire Road, Sunshine opened on 25 July 2016.
Our Community and Civic Centre is a catalyst project for attracting further development and investment in the Sunshine town centre. The centre's design confirms that this will be one of the outstanding buildings in the booming western region, and sets a benchmark for the quality of future projects.
About the New Centre
The Brimbank Community and Civic Centre is purpose-built, providing our community with:
- A new Sunshine Library
- A new Sunshine Customer Service Centre
- A range of community meeting spaces
- Exhibition spaces
- A local history interpretive centre.
New Library Features
Our new Sunshine Library is set across the first two floors with a large double-height reading room, and areas for different user groups: including children, teens, and adults. The children’s zone includes an outdoor area on the first floor. Free Wi-Fi will be available throughout the new building.
Other features include:
- Quiet study areas and booths
- Areas for quiet reading and computer work
- Gaming areas
- Wi-Fi lounge.
The ground floor of the library includes a content creation area. A local history interpretive centre for community groups will help preserve the history of Sunshine and greater Brimbank for generations to come.
New Customer Service Features
Our new Sunshine Customer Service Centre has general enquiry and specialist counter services, including planning and building, and environmental services. The customer service area offers self-service options, and comfortable waiting and consultation areas.
A small coffee-cart style café is planned for the first floor in the area between the library and Customer Service Centre, as well as an exhibition space. An open staircase leads to the first floor, where the Sunshine Harvester will be suspended from the roof.
Council Chambers and Community Rooms
The Council Chamber is on the first floor and can comfortably fit over 100 people at a meeting. The first floor provides additional exhibition spaces, and a variety of community rooms. Two of these rooms have adjustable walls, offering greater flexibility for different activities. We also have a computer training room on this floor for community use.
The Community and Civic Centre also provides new offices for our team, previously located all at Sunshine and Keilor. We’ll also have tenant spaces for other businesses.
