Get to know Cr Ranka Rasic
What is your connection to Brimbank?
Brimbank was my first home when I came to Australia in the 90’s. It’s where I raised my family, sent my children to local schools and even started my first job. Brimbank is where I met some of my first friends here in Australia and was my first introduction to the multicultural melting pot of different nationalities, religions and traditions in one vibrant city.
What do you think is the greatest strength of the Brimbank Community?
The greatest strength of Brimbank is its commitment to inclusivity. Since my arrival to Australia, I have never experienced a community that fosters such a strong connection amongst each other, whilst still maintaining its rich cultural heritage and vibrancy that enhances this great city.
What are your greatest concerns for Brimbank?
My greatest concerns for Brimbank is the lack of infrastructure that is needed to support this great city including: lack of adequate parkland and connectivity. I think we need to focus on our local roads, footpaths and upgrading local parks so that our residents can fully enjoy what this city has to offer. We need to ensure community safety is addressed by improving lighting across our municipality. Connectivity is also a major issue that we face in Brimbank; some inadequate roads, footpaths and lack of bike paths are a major concern. I’m greatly concerned about our environment and the lack of greenery throughout Brimbank.
What made you decide to run for Council?
My passion for community is what ultimately inspired me to run for council. Through engaging with local residents and seeing local issues that need attention, I decided to run for Council with the intention of bringing positive change to our area.
What do you hope to achieve in your term as a Brimbank Councillor?
In my term as Councillor, I will continue to champion the inclusiveness and vibrancy of our community.
I wish to address key issues that our community is facing, including: the need for better local roads, improved community services, more adequate parks for residents, creating a more sustainable and greener Brimbank and making sure that Brimbank gets its fair share of funding.
What is your favourite thing to do in Brimbank?
My favourite thing to do in Brimbank is going for a walk in the Organ Pipes National Park. In my opinion, the Organ Pipes are the heart of Brimbank. Its flora and fauna, rich history and beauty, resemble the true colours of Brimbank City.
