This event is being run in partnership between both Brimbank City Council and Maribyrnong City Council.
Explicit sexual imagery is now easily accessed, created and shared. For young people, it is almost impossible to avoid.
This parent session explores issues that are often not covered in sex education in schools, including how young people are influenced by explicit sexual imagery and the implications for their capacity to negotiate consent, mutual respect and gender equality.
The session will be led by Maree Crabbe, the Coordinator of community education project 'Reality and Risk: Pornography, young people and sexuality'.
Maree has worked with young people and the issues affecting them for 20 years.
The session will explore:
- What parents need to understand about pornography and its influence on young people’s sexual understandings and expectations.
- How parents support their children’s healthy social and sexual development in an age of pornography.
