Establishing / starting a new Community Group / Organisation

This training will guide you through setting up a new community group or organisation. It covers essential steps such as defining the mission and vision, developing a business plan, registering the group, and building a governance structure, laying a strong foundation for successful operation. Give community members the information required to start a community group. Where to register? What are the legal requirements? Benefits to register. Provide relevant resources.

Mental Health First Aid Training (MHFA)

Are you a community leader interested to support your group in Mental health? As part of the Brimbank Community Governance Program, Brimbank Council is offering a 2-day Standard Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training in the Community Setting course to community leaders in Brimbank.

This course teaches participants how to provide initial support to another adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional help is received, or the crisis resolves.

Participants will learn:

  • About the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in a friend, family member, loved one or another adult,
  • How to recognize and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health problem,
  • The treatments and supports available.

 

At the end of the 2 day training, participants will receive a nationally recognized Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Certificate.

First Nations Cultural Yarning Circles

Experience Connection, Conversation, and Cultural Understanding OR Connect, Learn and Reflect.

Join us for a 3-hour cultural immersion interactive session exploring the richness of First Nations culture through storytelling and shared conversation.

This interactive session is designed to deepen your understanding of First Nations culture and promote meaningful conversations through a Yarning Circle – a safe and respectful space for dialogue, storytelling and shared learning, includes a short presentation and guided discussions.

What to expect:

  • Insight into the world’s oldest living culture
  • Understanding cultural protocols and diversity
  • Exploring First Nations ways of knowing and being
  • Challenging myths and biases
  • Yarning Circle – a safe space to share, listen, and reflect

This session blends presentation and open discussion in a culturally respectful setting. Perfect for community members and service providers wanting to build deeper cultural awareness.
