The West Sunshine 20 Minute Neighbourhood is all about ‘living locally’ — giving people the ability to meet most of their daily needs within a 20-minute walk from home, with access to safe cycling and local transport options.
The residents of West Sunshine have told us they want more greening of streets, more creative spaces and a safer environment for pedestrians through traffic calming.
We’ve responded by developing a plan of temporary projects to test these ideas. We are also looking for ways to increase space for pedestrians in line with the 1.5m physical distancing requirements to COVID-19.
Creating colourful and engaging neighbourhoods
We’re inviting you to take part in the project by helping us design some patterns to add more colour, vibrancy and creativity in the area.
Your pattern might be based on something you love about your neighbourhood, such as the sunsets, the parks, the local birdlife, or your favourite tree.
We have included a template for you to draw your pattern on and also some examples to give you some inspiration below:
How to Get Involved
- Fill out our online form on this page and upload your pattern; or
- Email your pattern to with subject: Urban Designer
Submissions must be received by 5pm 28 August 2020.
What Happens Next?
Once we have received the patterns we will display them on Council’s website. We will ask the Local Traders of Glengala Village to pick their favourites and these will be used to create temporary street art in Glengala Village shops for people to enjoy. Parts of some of the drawings may even be used to paint patterns onto pavement surfaces.
