All cats and dogs aged 3 months and older must be microchipped and registered.
Owners are liable to an on-the-spot fine for each unregistered animal.
Who can apply
Pets must be registered to a person 18 years or older.
If the pet owner is under 18 years, the pet must be registered in the parent's or guardian's name in line with the Domestic Animals Act 1994.
What you need to apply
You must provide:
- Microchip certificate
- documents that support your registration type
- Pension card, if applicable
If you don’t provide relevant documents with your application, it may prevent you from receiving a reduced fee or approval of your registration. Your pet’s ID tag will arrive by post in 6-8 weeks.

- We will invoice owners for payment if we approve the application
- Registration is only valid once we receive payment.
