Victoria's Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) is a new initiative by the Victorian Government that provides a 10c refund for every eligible drink container returned to a collection point.
Look for the 10c mark on the drink container label. It is often located near the barcode.
The scheme is funded by the beverage industry. Once containers are returned, they become material for recycling.

CDS collection baskets and racks trial
We’re trialling container recycling baskets and racks on public bins in Sunshine and St Albans. The units are clearly labelled with the CDS branding you're used to seeing.
The purpose of these baskets is to:
- Leave your empty containers for others to take
- or collect the ones already there and take them to your closest refund point for a 10-cent refund.
The trial will help us understand how these baskets and racks can support our community and make sure more bottles and cans get recycled.

Most aluminium, glass, plastic and small carton (e.g, small juice and flavoured milk) drink containers between 150mL and 3 litres are eligible.
- You can keep the lids on.
- Containers must be empty and in good condition.
- Do not crush containers. Look for the 10c mark on the drink container label. It is often located near the barcode.

- Plain milk bottles or cartons
- Flavoured milk containers of 1L or more
- Glass wine bottles
- Glass spirit bottles
- Cordial bottles
- Juice containers 1L and over
Food containers (eg. tuna cans, pasta jars) are not eligible for refunds. These should be put in your regular recycling bin.

Yes, recycling will still be collected from recycling bins in Brimbank. Please continue to use your recycling bin for any recycling you don't choose to deposit at a refund point.

Eligible drink containers can be returned at designated refund points. Find your nearest refund point on the CDS Location Map.
There are four types of refund points: reverse vending machine, over the counter sites, depots and mobile collection points.
Depending on the type of return point, refunds are provided in cash, a retail voucher, as an electronic refund, or be given by you as a donation to one of the scheme's charity partners.
