Brimbank Advocacy Priorities 2025-2027

The refreshed advocacy priorities have been informed by the community and reflect the strategic directions of the ‘We Are Brimbank’ Plan. Council’s advocacy approach is strategic, evidence-based, constructive, and collaborative.

The Advocacy Priorities 2025-2027 include topics with strong community support as well as

those that provide benefits that span across Brimbank and beyond and are anticipated to have ongoing lasting effects well into the future.

Organised in Gold, Silver and Bronze tiers, this ranking ensures that our focus remains on the most important priorities, as well as those identified as being at a tipping point.

Summary of Advocacy Priorities 2025-2027

Gold Priority

  • Transforming Brimbank – leverage major infrastructure projects, such as the $4billion Sunshine Station redevelopment, to deliver generational community benefits, including economic development and better-connected west.
  • Mental Health – better access to care to break the cycle of intergenerational disadvantage and address unprecedented levels of mental distress.
  • Homelessness and Housing – more safe and affordable housing.

Silver Priority

  • Roads and Transport – deliver an efficient road and public transport network to meet the growing demand of the west.
  • Community Safety – champion a holistic and preventative approach to address growing community concerns about crime, youth disengagement and family violence.
  • Climate Emergency – build long-term, sustainable solutions with legislative backing and consistent investment from all levels of government.

Bronze Priority

  • Community Infrastructure – ensure access for all to quality community spaces.
  • Gambling Harm – call for stronger reforms and investment to reduce gambling harm and support safer, healthier communities.
  • Government constraints on Council – stop the continued cost-shifting that is increasingly eroding Council’s capacity to deliver services.
