Brimbank City Council has renewed its successful agreement with Victoria University (VU) through to 2030, strengthening a collaboration focused on creating better opportunities and outcomes for the Brimbank community.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is a commitment from both organisations to work together transparently and co-operatively, for the mutual benefit of both organisations, the wider Brimbank community and Melbourne’s West.
The focus of the MoU is to improve outcomes in relation to employment, education, community health and wellbeing, caring for country and climate action, and building strategic partnerships to improve community outcomes.
Since the first MoU was signed in 2023, Council has worked with VU on our vision for the Sunshine precinct, Brimbank Tech School and the National Centre for Excellence in Paramedics.
The partnership has also supported the establishment of a Brimbank Social Inclusion Action Group, a dedicated Economic Employment Advisory Group and more bus services for our community.
VU has provided careers counselling at our libraries, short courses, free TAFE in community settings including at the St Albans Community Centre and sponsorship of community events, such as the Brimbank Writers and Readers Festival.
Quotes to be attributed to Brimbank Mayor Cr Virginia Tachos:
“Over the past three years, Council and VU have worked closely to deliver for the Brimbank community, and we look forward to continuing that partnership.
“VU’s research expertise has helped Council strengthen its local health and wellbeing programs while supporting our advocacy for better mental health funding for young people in Brimbank.
“Over the coming years, we look forward to work together on the further development of the Sunshine National Employment and Innovation Cluster and opportunities around future learning, skills, research and economic development for our community.”
