Changes to aged care assessment services

There are a number of changes being made to aged care services across the country as part of the Commonwealth aged care reforms.

Brimbank Mayor Cr Ranka Rasic said Brimbank City Council is committed to supporting older residents to find where they need to go to get support.

“Council is a place residents contact for help and advice. To support residents with changes Council will be increasing its investment in our Service Navigation service that helps residents to navigate through and access aged care services that best meet their needs,” Mayor Rasic said.

The Australian Government is making change to the aged care assessment system. A new nation-wide Single Assessment System will be introduced which aims to simplify and improve access to funded aged care services for older residents.

This new system will incorporate the current Regional Assessment Service that has been delivered by Brimbank City Council in the past. From 1 July 2024, Brimbank City Council will no longer be responsible for delivering aged care assessments (Regional Assessment Service). The Australian Government is appointing service providers that have the capability and are best placed to provide assessments under the new system.

Anyone who has already registered for an assessment will maintain their position on the waitlist for assessment and will be contacted by a service provider who will complete the assessment.

People seeking an assessment, or who have questions about aged care services, will continue to access the central entry point of My Aged Care. My Aged Care can be contacted on 1800 200 422.

Brimbank Council will continue to offer services for seniors, including the additional investment in supporting residents to navigate through the changes; to find out more visit our Seniors page or call 03 9249 4000.
