A vision for a bigger and better Sunshine Leisure Centre has been released for community feedback.
More indoor water space, indoor play equipment, and a bigger gym are amongst the potential future enhancements outlined in the Draft Sunshine Leisure Centre Master Plan.
Mayor of Brimbank, Cr Lucinda Congreve said Council had worked closely with the community to look at how the service could be improved at Sunshine Leisure Centre into the future.
“We know the local community feels a strong connection to this facility and we’ve listened to feedback on how they would like to see the centre improved and expanded.
“The leisure centre as it stands today is small and there’s a need to plan for how water space and gym components could be expanded into the future.
“The draft master plan recommends additional indoor water space through the introduction of a warm water exercise pool, indoor water play equipment, a wellness area, a significantly bigger gym, three group fitness rooms and improvements outside – including scope to extend the outdoor pool if required in the future.
“I encourage community members to have a look at what is being proposed and take the time to their say,” Cr Congreve said.
The Draft Sunshine Leisure Centre Master Plan includes a staged implementation plan to allow for works to be undertaken when Council budget is available.
The indicative cost for all stages is about $35 million.
“We want to realise the full potential of Sunshine Leisure Centre and we’ve been making a number of improvements at the centre over recent times.
“We’ve introduced year-round swimming in the outdoor pool; soon we’ll be introducing Spin Classes, and we’re making improvements to provide 24/7 gym access later this year.
“We acknowledge the work undertaken by the former Sunshine Leisure Centre Community Consultative Group in making recommendations for improvements to the centre that has helped inform the development of the draft master plan,” Cr Congreve said.
The Draft Sunshine Leisure Centre Master Plan is available for community comment online at www.brimbank.vic.gov.au/haveyoursay, at Brimbank Leisure Centres, Libraries and Customer Service Centres. Community feedback will be accepted until 5pm, 21 June 2019.
