The school holiday dance workshop gives young people an opportunity to explore the world of ballet and co-create their own dance-work to perform for family and friends at the end of the week.
Brimbank Mayor Cr Lucinda Congreve said Council is thrilled The Australian Ballet’s education team is bringing the dance workshop to our community and partnering with the Bowery Theatre to run the school holiday program.
“It’s not every day The Australian Ballet comes to St Albans.
“This program is about making the ballet accessible to families that may not always have this opportunity. No experience is necessary and even better, there’s no charge to participate!
“This is a fantastic opportunity for our young people to get a taste for the ballet. The workshops include contemporary warm-ups, dance experiences and choreographic games.
“The program offers the chance to learn from ballet professionals and also includes discussions on costume design, music and story-telling, so it sounds like a lot of fun,” said Cr Congreve.
Katy McKeown, The Australian Ballet’s Head of Education said The Australian Ballet is excited to bring dance to the west.
“We are excited to be working with Brimbank City Council again and providing opportunities for young Australians to be inspired by and benefit from dance. Our team is made up of trained dance education specialists that are passionate about increasing access to dance education and reaching out to communities through this innovative creative learning program,” said Ms McKeown.
In addition to the students’ performance on the final day, join together and watch The Australian Ballet education team perform Plain Jane, a contemporary-ballet duet from 12noon-1pm on Friday 4 October.
