Media statement - Brimbank Council welcomes EPA action on Kealba Landfill

A statement from Brimbank Mayor, Cr Ranka Rasic:

“The management of the Kealba Landfill is a significant and ongoing concern for Council and our community.

“We welcome EPA’s action to suspend Barro’s operating licence and will continue to advocate to the EPA and the State Government to take every measure possible to reduce the impacts of the landfill on the nearby community.

“The Kealba Landfill is regulated by the EPA and we are pleased to see them taking the necessary actions to ensure that the health and wellbeing of locals are protected.

“While the suspension is an important step, we know there is still much work to be done to extinguish the hotspots and respond to the concerns of the local community.

“We will continue to seek information and advice from the EPA, who are the regulators of the site, to push for swift and safe action on the hotspots.”
