Media Release - Land MARKS – Artists in Residence program

Brimbank will be home to dozens of new artworks over the next six months when our Artists in Residence program, Land MARKS 2020-21 kicks off.

The artworks will flourish in homes, communities and in public spaces across Brimbank from November until late April 2021.

Brimbank Mayor Cr Ranka Rasic said the art will refresh our City, breathe new life into our community hubs, and surprise and delight us as we move through the COVID-19 recovery phase.

“Led by 10 visionary artists; murals, film-shoots, dancing, digital artworks and storytelling projects will light the way as we re-enter civic life.

“Art such as this can help build local pride of place, and we look forward to the artists delivering their exciting projects to the Brimbank community.

“The Land MARKS artists have been engaged by Council and funded through the State Government’s Working for Victoria initiative.

“Their work will help improve local streetscapes, amenity and build creative industry resilience as the community starts to recover and rebuild from the impacts of the pandemic,” Cr Rasic said.

The Land MARK artists are:

Baby Guerilla (Murals), Dagogo Obago (Dance Workshops), lrihipeti Waretini (Multidisciplinary Storytelling), James Welsby (Dance & Drag Workshops/ Films), Jennifer Tran (Food Art), Jessica Wilson (Digital Art and Play), Katherine Gailer (Murals), Mike Maka (Murals), Rachel Main (Films), Sam Elkin (LGBTQIA+ Storytelling).

The artists will engage local, diverse community members in consultations, as participants and co-creators through diverse art-forms and a wide range of creative activities, including workshops, work in progress showings, talks, presentations and creative developments.

Over the coming months, and in line with COVID-19 restrictions at the time, Land MARKS will present outcomes in public sites and venues across Brimbank.

People of all ages from across the municipality are invited to engage, participate and work with the artists to shape new experiences in and for the community.
