Parking strategy

The Parking strategy (PDF 998KB) establishes Council’s vision that “Parking in Brimbank is managed to improve economic vitality, urban amenity and to support sustainable transport choices through parking options that balance the requirements of residents, special user groups, visitors, business and commuters”.

Council prepared the Strategy to establish a high level, coordinated, consistent and transparent approach and policy basis for the provision and management of car parking across the municipality.

The Strategy identified Council’s key parking functions under management, provision, planning, and advocacy and six overarching principles - fairness, access for all, affordability, management first, sustainability and quality urban places.

These principles guide objectives and actions under four key themes:

  • Parking in activity centres
  • Parking in residential areas
  • Parking around out-of-centre transport demand generators
  • Parking around railway stations
