Environmental equity

We are committed to environmental equity to:

  • mitigate rising levels of urban heat

  • reduce waste going to landfill

  • encourage sustainable design and development, and

  • restore natural environments.

While these issues have historically been considered separate, we believe now is the time to address them.

We are calling on the State and Federal governments to support this agenda through:

  1. Ongoing funding to continue increasing Brimbank's canopy cover.

  2. Support of our Response Strategy to the Western Rail Plan to create a green and sustainable Sunshine Priority Precinct.

  3. Support climate change action and Brimbank’s climate emergency campaign.

  4. Provide leadership to address the waste and recycling crisis.

  5. Provide funding to remediate contaminated land in Brimbank.

  6. Complete the Upper Stony Creek Transformation Project.

  7. Support Brimbank to deliver the Urban Forest Strategy and the Biodiversity Strategy to protect and enhance parklands, creek corridors, open spaces and our biodiversity.

  8. Mitigate the impacts on the Brimbank community of a potential third runway at Melbourne Airport.

  9. Support strategic partnerships to strengthen the Transforming Brimbank - Environmental Equity agenda.

  10. Develop an Integrated Transport Strategy for the west that links the Sunshine Superhub with the region’s Environmental Precincts.
