Open air burning permit

Backyard and open-air burning off is generally not permitted in Brimbank. 

However, there are a few exceptions and in these instances, a permit is required.  Such circumstances include:

  • for a special commemorative event
  • when it is a medical necessity
  • to destroy noxious weeds or  fire hazards that cannot be removed by other methods
  • for agricultural purposes in farming areas.

Permit charges

A non-refundable application fee of $82.20 must be paid when submitting the complete application form.

Once an application is approved a permit fee of $342.20 is required.

Submitting your application

Post the form with a cheque or money order to City Regulatory Services, Brimbank City Council, PO Box 70, Sunshine 3020.

Or take it to one of our Customer Service Centres where you can pay with cash or via EFT
