Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Systems in Public Places Policy

The Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Systems in Public Places Policy (PDF 42KB) provides direction and guidance to Council and officers when considering the introduction of a CCTV System in public places.

The objectives of this policy are:

  • To outline the specific requirements in which the implementation of CCTV Systems in public places may be considered;
  • To ensure any CCTV Systems in public places implemented are compliant with relevant legislation and other statutory requirements.

Our Code of Practice for CCTV in Sunshine Town Centre (PDF 6.6MB) sets the standards for how the Brimbank CCTV system operates; through the establishment of 10 fundamental principles that cover a range of topics, including:

  • privacy and human rights of individual members of the public
  • system responsibility and compliance
  • access to and the retention of footage
  • effective management and operation of the program
  • system purpose.

Community safety involves the whole community taking action to reduce and prevent injuries to promote a safe and healthy community.

We support this through the Safe and Inclusive Brimbank (PDF 853KB) that guides our approach to enhancing Brimbank's safety.

We implement community safety through

  • planning and regulation;
  • policy development;
  • service delivery;
  • advocacy;
  • maintenance and design of public places; and
  • through community engagement and partnerships.
