All dogs and cats in Brimbank over 3 months old must be registered, microchipped, and desexed. You’ll need to provide copies of all relevant documents including desexing certificate and microchip number(s).

Register your Pet or pay your pet registration renewal:

Registrations are charged annually and they must be renewed by 10 April each year.

Pensioner discount

If you're an eligible pension cardholder (not a Health care card - HCC), you get 50% off pet registration. You'll need to provide a photo or scanned copy of your pension card.

Cats exempt under the Domestic Animals Act 1994 from any requirement to be microchipped and desexed. $94.00

How do I register multiple Pets and/or other Pets

Multiple Pet Permits

You need a multiple pet permit if you have:

  • More than two cats (153.0 KB)
  • More than two dogs (131.0 KB)
  • More than six (6) different species of animal;
  • Any agricultural animal unless the land is securely fenced and has a minimum size of 2 hectares for the first animal and a further 0.5 hectares for each additional animal.
  • More than the maximum number of animals (see table below);

Keeping a Cockatoo or a Galah

You need a permit to keep a cockatoo or galah in Brimbank. Only the Sulphur Crested Cockatoo and Galah can be held without an Advanced Wildlife Licence.

Desexing/sterilisation exemptions

Your dog or cat may be exempt from desexing if:

  • You have written advice from your vet that your animal’s health will be negatively impacted if desexed
  • You're a current member of an applicable organisation
  • You conduct a registered domestic animal business under which dogs or cats are used for breeding purposes
  • It is a working or farm dog
  • It is a dangerous dog, kept as a guard dog for non-residential premises
  • It is a dangerous dog that has undergone protection training in accordance with any relevant Code of Practice made under section 59 of the Domestic Animals Act

What if my Pet has passed away

If you’ve paid your registration fee and your pet passes away, there are two options:

  • If you're going to adopt another pet, we can transfer paid fees to the new animal. You may wish to order a new Pet tag replacement.
  • You can apply in writing for paid registration fees to be refunded before 30 June of current registration year only.
