Have your say on Brimbank’s draft budget and action plan

Have your say about what you would like to see Brimbank’s annual budget spent on in 2024-2025 and plans for future projects and services.

It includes key initiatives that respond to community priorities, strengthen community connections, support health and wellbeing, and contribute to the overall liveability of our city.

Our draft Council Plan Action Plan for 2024-2025, Annual Budget 2024-2025 and Financial Plan 2024-2034 delivers the commitments made in our Council Plan, Together We are Brimbank 2021-2025, while sustainably balancing core Council responsibilities in service and infrastructure funding.

The Action Plan has 81 actions and responds to what we heard and understand is important to our community.  In November and December 2023, we asked over 120 community members to share their insights about community priorities.  They told us that public realm and roads and footpaths are of highest importance, while climate and conservation were the highest priorities for young people.

Financial sustainability is at the forefront of our planning, particularly as we face significant challenges such as climate emergency, an increasing cost of living, ageing infrastructure and landfill levies, and a State Government cap on rates that is set at 2.75%, well below CPI.

In 2024-2025 Council will invest $263.2 million into operations, to deliver 76 important services for our community ranging from arts and culture, and maternal and child health, to statutory planning and urban design.  This includes spending an increased amount of $17.6 million on parks and trees and $25.6 million on waste services.

An investment of $58.7 million will be made into the capital works program in 2024-2025.  Highlights include:

  • $27.9 million on roads and drainage upgrades
  • $5.2 million for playgrounds, parks and gardens
  • $2.1 million on walking and cycling paths to connect our city
  • $18.8 million on improvements to community facilities including sports and early learning facilities
  • $0.9 million on assets including $800,000 for library books, and;
  • $3.8 million for the cyclical replacement of plant and vehicle fleet.
