Working with the Department of Transport and Planning, Council is installing “No Trucks” prohibition signs to prevent trucks from accessing selected residential streets, outside certain approved criteria.
The new “No Trucks” zones are as follows:
• Windsor Boulevard between Mt Derrimut Road and Robinsons Road, Derrimut
• Foleys Road between Mt Derrimut Road and Robinsons Road, Deer Park
• The Avenue and Wright Street between Fitzgerald Road and Fairbairn Road, Sunshine West
• Hatchlands Drive, Derrimut.
All signs are expected to be in place by February 2024.
Residents in these areas have expressed concern about trucks, including large heavy vehicles, using these streets for no reason other than to by-pass the arterial road network; they will be pleased to know that the “No Trucks” zones are effective immediately.
The roads are in close proximity to schools, kindergartens, shops, local playgrounds and public facilities such as sportsgrounds and reserves.
Where previously trucks, such as B-Doubles, have been parking in conflict with the parking restrictions signs, reducing the available road space or been left idling and resulting in exhaust fumes lingering, there are now enforceable ‘No Truck” regulations.
Following this change residents should no longer be constantly disturbed by the noise of trucks accelerating, using engine breaks, or alleged speeding in these residential areas.
Windsor Boulevard, Foleys Road, The Avenue and Wright Street are not truck routes or truck layover parking facilities. Other than the occasional truck driving down the street to service shops, schools and residential properties, heavy vehicles should not be using the street.
“No Trucks” zones are enforced by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator. Breaches of regulations can be reported to the Heavy Vehicle Confidential Reporting Line (HVCRL) on 1800 931 785.
