Media release - Community sentiment indicates Brimbank is tracking well

Brimbank Council has achieved positive results in the recently released state-wide 2023 Community Satisfaction Survey for Local Governments.

Now in its 24th year, the Community Satisfaction Survey is one of many engagement methods used by Council to track its annual performance.

The results show that Brimbank tracked well in comparison with average ratings for councils, both metropolitan and state-wide, across nine key performance areas. These were: ‘overall Council direction’; ‘lobbying on behalf of community’; ‘making decisions in the interest of the community’; ‘population growth’; ‘town planning policy’; ‘planning and building permits’; ‘disadvantaged support services’; ‘traffic management’ and ‘parking facilities’.

Of all the core measures, Council’s ‘overall performance’ remained strong and ‘customer service’ was a high performer with a score of 70, which is three points higher than the state-wide average.

Across the 28 service measures, Council’s results remained fairly consistent with what was achieved the previous year, with areas including ‘arts centres’, ‘libraries’ and ‘recreational facilities’ rating well and improving their scores.

Other areas where Brimbank’s rates are higher when compared to both Melbourne metro and state-wide results include ‘overall Council direction’, ‘town planning policy’, ‘planning and building permits’, ‘parking facilities’ and ‘population growth’.

Satisfaction fell in relation to the appearance of public areas perhaps due to longer grass, as a result of heavier and repeated rainfall. Council is committed to improving the appearance of our public areas and is planning a number of park upgrades in the 2023-2024 financial year.

The 2023 Community Satisfaction Survey was conducted by JWS Research.  It was completed by just over 400 Brimbank residents via telephone interviews. A copy of the results may be viewed on www.brimbank.vic.gov.au

Quotes to be attributed to Brimbank Mayor Cr Bruce Lancashire:

“Overall the 2023 survey results show that Council’s performance has been stable compared to last year and that we are generally tracking well.

“It is pleasing to note that compared to the state-wide results, Council’s performance was rated higher for ‘overall performance’; ‘value for money’; ‘environmental sustainability’; ‘disadvantaged support services’; ‘traffic management’; ‘lobbying’; and ‘community decisions’.

“Council welcomes the survey results as they provide an insight into the needs and expectations of our community and tell us what’s foremost on their minds.  We are determined to build on the results and work towards further improvement.”
