Media release - Have your say on the Draft Brimbank Lifelong Learning Strategy 2024-2029

Brimbank City Council is inviting community comment on its Draft Lifelong Learning Strategy 2024-2029.

The draft strategy will help guide Council to support better learning outcomes for everyone. This includes the development of skills, and building people’s knowledge and confidence to be able to be active in their community, find jobs, and look after their health and wellbeing.

It is a long-term guide for Council, aimed at improving the social and economic wellbeing of people and the Brimbank community.

Council will work with partner organisations and community members to:

  • create new approaches and partnerships

  • develop and promote different pathways to learning

  • promote better learning results throughout the municipality.

The draft strategy has been developed after initial consultations with community and stakeholders that captured more than 300 voices. This included six consultation sessions and a community survey.

Council is now seeking additional community input before the draft strategy can be finalised. To view the draft strategy and have your say visit yoursay.brimbank.vic.gov.au

Consultation opens on 25 August, and will close on 22 September 2023.

All feedback will be considered in the preparation of the final document that will be presented to Council for adoption at a future Council Meeting.

The Draft Brimbank Lifelong Learning Strategy supports the Together We Are Brimbank Council Plan 2021-2025 strategic direction of: ‘Opportunity and Prosperity - A future focused, transforming city where all have opportunities to learn and earn - A prosperous place for all’ and the strategic objective of ‘Earning and Learning - Everyone has access to education, training and lifelong learning to support their aspirations’.

Quotes to be attributed to Brimbank Mayor Cr Bruce Lancashire:

“The Draft Lifelong Learning strategy will help guide Council on how we can better support learning and wellbeing for the people of Brimbank.

“We want to encourage residents to participate in lifelong learning activities; to build better outcomes for social and economic wellbeing; developing skills and building knowledge and to look after their health and wellbeing.”
