Media release - Have your say on Kindergarten in Brimbank

Brimbank Council is seeking feedback on what is most important to families when selecting a kindergarten program.

The Victorian Government recently announced major reforms to the kindergarten sector as part of the Best Start, Best Life Reform.  This includes the introduction of Three-Year-Old and Free Kindergarten. These changes have already resulted in increased demand for kindergarten in Brimbank.

We want to understand how these changes will impact Brimbank families and what this means for how we plan and deliver services. We are seeking your feedback on:

  • How the changes to kindergarten will impact how you plan to access kindergarten and childcare.

  • What most influences your decision when choosing a local kindergarten?

We will use this information to:

  • Review our Kindergarten Registration and Enrolment policy, including whether new local criteria are introduced that will further prioritise access.

  • Inform future planning for kindergarten provision in Brimbank.

Any changes to the policy will be implemented for the 2025 kindergarten year, when allocation begins June 2024.

To have your say visit www.yoursay.brimbank.vic.gov.au The consultation closes Sunday 17 September.

Quotes to be attributed to Brimbank Mayor Cr Bruce Lancashire:

“Council is committed to providing a fair, equitable and transparent approach to kindergarten registrations and supporting our community to give children the best start in life.

“This review is an opportunity to ask families and carers about what influences their decisions when selecting a local kindergarten. The feedback will help inform whether new local criteria are introduced to Brimbank’s kindergarten registration policy.

“Your feedback is important in helping us understand local priorities around accessing kindergarten. I encourage families and carers to have a say and help ensure more kids get the most out of early education.”
