Cairnlea Drive Bus Route - raised by Cr Thuy Dang

Quotes to be attributed to Brimbank Mayor Cr Bruce Lancashire:

“Brimbank Council calls on the State Government for additional bus services in Cairnlea to reduce car dependence and increase public transport access to nearby activity centres.

“Council calls for the delivery of a new bus service between Sunshine Station and the Brimbank Shopping Centre via Ballarat Road and Cairnlea Drive before any development is undertaken of the state-owned land at 147 Cairnlea Drive.”

Quotes to be attributed to Cr Thuy Dang:

“Large parts of the Cairnlea community do not have access to viable public transport options, leading to an over dependence on private vehicles that has a bad effect on the environment, traffic congestion and the cost of living.”

Background

Cairnlea is one of the most car dependent suburbs in Brimbank, with the percentage of dwellings having three or more registered motor vehicles almost double that of the Greater Melbourne average.

Development Victoria have requested a Ministerial amendment to the Brimbank Planning Scheme  to allow for the development of the land at 147 Cairnlea Drive for residential, retail, commercial and community uses.

Brimbank’s submission to the proposed Planning Scheme Amendment raised a number of concerns around the lack of public transport provision to the site.

Sunshine Energy Park – raised by Cr Bruce Lancashire

Quotes to be attributed to Brimbank Mayor Cr Bruce Lancashire:

“Brimbank Council is preparing a report on the Draft Sunshine Energy Park Vision Plan for consideration at a future Council meeting which will include development opportunities that counteract the urban heat effect.

“The heat island effect in parts of Sunshine is significant and can have negative impacts on its residents such as heat stroke and worsening of existing health conditions.”

“Subject to the Council’s endorsement of the draft Plan, the community will be given an opportunity to have their say so we can have solid actions in place to help improve the environment and quality of life for Sunshine residents.”

Background

The Draft Sunshine Energy Park Vision Plan includes extensive tree planting (urban forest), a solar farm and other proposed development opportunities.

Council officers are finalising a report on the Draft Sunshine Energy Park Vision Plan to be presented to the December 2022 Council Meeting for consideration. Subject to Council’s endorsement of the Draft Plan, community consultation will be undertaken in early 2023.
